KARACHI: A 25-year-old man committed suicide in Qaimkhani Colony in Baldia Town on Saturday.

The Ittehad Town police said the victim, identified as Maroof Latif, shot himself near Peela School.

The body was shifted to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi.

Two suspected robbers held

The Special Investigation Unit of police on Saturday claimed to have arrested two suspected robbers involved in the snatching of cash from a senior citizen.

The video of the mugging went viral on social media and acting on a tip-off the SIU carried out a raid in the Abul Hasan Ispahani Road area and apprehended Khalid Husain Ranjhani and Abdul Qadir alias Mazari Khan Chandio, and recovered one grenade, one pistol and a motorbike from their custody.

“The held suspects, along with their accomplices, had been involved in robberies in Mobina Town, Gulistan-i-Jauhar, Aziz Bhatti, Sharea Faisal, Sachal, Sukhan, Landhi, Al-Falah, Khokhrapar, Nazimabad, Gizri, Boat Basin and Malir Cantt. Areas,” said SIU SSP Arif Aziz.

The suspect, Khalid Ranjhani, had shot at and injured assistant sub-inspector of police in Shah Latif Town in year 2020. He was also involved in snatching Rs1.4 million from Boat Basin. Few days ago, both the held suspects, along with their accomplices, had snatched Rs600,000 from citizen near Safoora who had drawn cash from the bank and on the same day, the same suspects had looted Rs300,000 from a senior citizen in Gulistan-i-Jauhar Block 13 whose video went viral on social media.

“The suspects were also arrested over dacoities, police encounters and possession of illegal arms in the past, several times and sent to the prison,” added the officer.

The held suspect Khalid Ranjhani’s brother, Irshad Ranjhani was killed in Sukhan in recent past, said SIU SSP, adding that a case under terror charges has been registered against them.
