SWABI: Gadoon social workers, backed by Topi tehsil chairman and local people, on Thursday staged a peaceful protestagainst the drug menace and vowed to discourage use of drugs among the youth. They also called for strict measures to check easy availability of drugs.

The protest was led by retired ASP Gul Nawaz Khan, former provincial minister Ghafoor Khan Jadoon and Topi tehsil chairman Mohammad Rahim Jadoon. A number of other notables also participated in the protest and supported the campaign to discourage the use of drugs because it was posing a grave threat to the future of the youth.

Ghafoor Khan Jadoon said that the role of parents was important todiscourage the use of drugs among the youth.

Mr Rahim said they were ready to cooperate with the district police and hoped that entire Gadoon Amazai would be made free of drugs.

KILLED: A man from Mohmand district, presently residing in Swabi, was killed in a clash here on Thursday.

The incident occurred in Swabi city police station limits when Daud Khan allegedly opened fire on Karim Khan over a woman-related issue.

As a result, Karim was injured and he later succumbed to his injuries in the DHQ hospital. Local police have registered an FIR against Daud Khan.
