KOHAT: Rescue 1122 officials on Tuesday imparted training to Army personnel in securing people in case of floods and providing first aid to the injured.

On the directives of director general Rescue 1122, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Dr Khateer Ahmed, district emergency officer Jawad Khalil and in-charge of the training wing Yasir Khattak visited the 14 Engineering Unit of the Army and imparted training to the personnel in clearing affected areas, restoring breathing of fainted people and shifting injured people to hospitals.

Separately, speakers at an awareness workshop held here the other day said under the amended Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Local Government Law, local body members could face action if they failed to resolve public issues in a timely manner.

They said wings of different departments had been devolved to the district level under the law for speedy redressal of people’s problems at the grassroots level.

The two-day workshop was attended by students, journalists and social activists.

Trainer Fazlur Rehman told the participants that the develoved departments included basic and secondary education, irrigation, drinking water, social welfare, sports, fisheries, youth affairs, livestock, agriculture, water management, soil conservation, cleanliness, rural development, human resource, planning for local problems, approval of maps, making of birth, marriage, death, divorce certificates, budget and finance.
