RAWALPINDI, Dec 2: The Punjab government has allocated Rs1,231 million for improvement in livestock production. Director-General Livestock and Dairy Development Sajjad Zaheer Malik said this while speaking at the concluding session of a training course on livestock diseases here on Friday.

The course was aimed at apprising the officers associated with farming and livestock of the new trends in this sector and enhancing their capacity.

Mr Malik said the provincial government was evolving a comprehensive strategy to properly utilise this huge allocation. He said no effort would be spared to ensure sustainable growth and progress in the livestock sector.

The European Union is also assisting us in bringing stability in this sector and keeping pace with the ever-increasing demand of milk, meat and other dairy products, he said. He said the government was striving to minimise the loss of livestock due to foot and mouth disease. He said though there was homoeopathic way of treatment for this killer disease, it could not be used officially because it was not registered with the government.

He said Pakistan Drug Registration Authority would take a decision about the homoeopathic way of treatment.
