RAWALPINDI: After removing senior officers for their negligence that led to the Murree tragedy, the Punjab government on Thursday transferred Secretary Youth Affairs and Sports Department Noorul Amin Mengal and posted him as the commissioner of Rawalpindi in place of Syed Gulzar Hussain Shah who has been directed to report to the federal government.

In place of Mohammad Ali, Tahir Farooq has been transferred from Sialkot and posted as the deputy commissioner Rawalpindi.

Moreover, Omer Saeed Malik has been posted as the city police officer (CPO).

A notification issued by the Punjab government services and general administration department said Mr Malik (PSP/BS-19) awaiting posting at the Central Police Office, Lahore, is hereby posted as the CPO Rawalpindi.

He was serving as the district police officer (DPO) Sialkot when the Sri Lankan factory manager Priyantha Kumara was lynched by a mob in early December 2021.

Earlier, Ashfaq Ahmad Khan, the regional police officer (RPO), had been given the additional charge of the CPO in place of Sajid Kiani who was transferred and directed to report to the services and general administration department.
