KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah on Friday directed the public health engineering (PHE) department to complete 151 ongoing water supply and sanitation schemes launched for Rs11.428 billion so that people of different villages could benefit from them.

“The PHE department has a portfolio of 301 schemes worth Rs15.5bn, of them 151 are ongoing. Therefore, they must be completed by the end of current financial year,” he said while presiding over a meeting to review progress of development schemes here at CM House.

The meeting was attended by Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Shah, PHE secretary Saeed Awan, finance secretary Asif Jahangir and others.

The LG minister informed the meeting that the scheme of installation of desalination plant at Manora was launched for Rs427.648 million and it would be made functional in July 2022.

He said that those plans to be completed by July 2023 included the water supply scheme for 48 villages of Kathore union council, Malir, of Rs140.2m; for Allah Bux Jokhio, UC Darsano Channo, Malir, of Rs20m; for Mohammad Brohi Goth, UC 30 Chashma, Bin Qasim, Malir, of Rs20m; Rs144.337m water supply scheme from Hub Dam to 42 villages of district West; laying of water supply line of Murad Goth, UC-5, District West, of Rs14.323m; scheme of ultra-filtration water supply plant for Tando Jam of Rs617.441m and various others.

The CM directed the minister to depute his team to visit each ongoing scheme to monitor their pace, quality, and completion time. “We are going to complete 151 schemes for the benefit of villagers,” he said.
