Punjab upgrades service of 30,000 workers

LAHORE: The Punjab government has upgraded the service of some 30,000 employees serving in various departments, wrapping up the matter pending for a long time.

Chairing a special committee meeting at the Civil Secretariat on Thursday, Punjab Law Minister Basharat Raja reviewed the matter and approved upgrade.

As many as 14,387 warders of the jail department were upgraded from BPS-5 to BPS-7; 1,520 head warders upgraded from BPS-7 to BPS-9 and 162 chief warders upgraded from BPS-9 to BPS-11. Moreover 49 religious teachers posted in the same department were given BPS-12 to BPS-15.

The committee also increased the grades of 373 telephone operators of different departments from BPS-7 to BPS-11 and the scale of 11,184 drivers from BPS-4 to BPS-5.

The social welfare department’s 695 supervisors have been promoted from BPS-9 to BPS-11; 928 watchers from BPS-5 to BPS-7; 162 wild inspectors of forest department from BPS-9 to BPS-11 and two physical instructors got BPS-8 to BPS-9.

The committee upgraded 458 caretakers of the Punjab Higher Education Department from BPS-9 to BPS-11.
