GUJRAT: Scores of the residents of Hassan Chowk and its adjoining commercial and residential localities on Wednesday lodged a strong protest against the alleged negligence of the Gujrat Municipal Corporation (GMC) in rectifying the water supply turbine fault in the area.

The traders and residents of the area told Dawn that the water supply turbine had been out of order for the last 10 days, resulting in water shortage and causing hardships for the people.

They said the issue had been brought into the notice of the GMC administration, but to no avail so far.

The water supply turbine is installed in the GMC-owned parking plaza at Hassan Chowk, the commercial hub of the city comprising Court Road, Khawajgan Road and the surrounding residential localities.

Malik Nabeel, a resident of Khwajgan Road, said the civic agency did not pay heed to their repeated calls and protest to resolve the issue.

The protesters urged the authorities concerned to take notice of the issue and resolve it.

YARN THEFT: Yarn worth around one million rupees has been stolen from a powerloom unit in Jalalpur Jattan city police precincts.

Adnan Bashir, the owner of the unit, lodged a complaint with the police saying two workers had stolen the yarn.

Acting on the complaint, the police booked the suspects and started investigation.
