ISLAMABAD: British High Commissioner Christian Turner on Monday appreciated Pakistan’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

During a meting with Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mahmood, the high commissioner said so far Pakistan has done well to curtail the virus. The two sides exchanged views on a range of bilateral issues, says a press release issued by education ministry.

It said Mr Turner invited the minister to participate in the “Global education summit: financing GPE 2021-25” taking place by the end of July in the UK.

The summit will be a key moment for the global community to come together and support quality education for all children. The centre piece of the summit will be the opportunity for leaders to make a five-year pledge to support GPE’s work to help transform education system in up to 90 countries.

The press release said the high commissioner also lauded the initiatives of distance learning, ed-tech blended learning and vowed to support Pakistan in the field of education. The education minister said Pakistan and UK were deep strategic partners in the field of education and during the incumbent government this long-standing partnership between the two has been further strengthened.

The minister said for the first time in the history of the country, Hindu, Sikh, Christian, Kalash and Bihai communities would be taught their own religious contents and values.
