LAHORE: A Metro bus caught fire and was burnt completely on Thursday apparently due to a short circuit near Minar-i-Pakistan station.

The bus was empty and being taken from Nishtar Colony station to Shahdara for service to start trip for Gajjumata.

The driver remained safe as he managed to come out of it.

“The bus has been completely burnt. And it was one of various empty buses supposed to be taken daily to Shahdara for starting trip to Gujjumata (as some taken to Gujjumata for starting operation for Shahdara),” a senior official of Punjab Mass Transit Authority told Dawn.

He said the initial inquiry revealed that the bus caught fire due to a spark in wiring.

RAIL: Pakistan Railways Chief Executive Officer Nisar Ahmed Memon held a Facebook Live open forum at Railway Headquarters here on Thursday to discuss the issues and problems of railway employees and general public.

“The main purpose of the forum is to establish a link between PR and the people and ensure immediate resolution of their problems. The railway employees raised issues related to recruitment under the PM package, payment of post gratuity amount and allotment of quarters. The general public requested the CEO to run more passenger trains on different sections and improve timings and refund issues,” Mr Memon said.

COVID CENTRE: The city administration on Thursday opened a sectoral Covid vaccination centre at Shahalam Market to vaccinate traders and shopkeepers, according to a spokesman.
