PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to set up eight shelter homes in the province with the help of Pakistan Baitul Mal.
A statement issued here said that the decision was made in a meeting of KP Shelter Welfare Board that was presided over by Minister for Social Welfare Dr Hisham Inamullah Khan.
It said that arrangements were being made for early completion of the shelter homes. It said that the meeting was informed that shelter homes in Peshawar, Mardan and Abbottabad were activated and that in Swat would start working on June 30, 2021.
The meeting also discussed the social welfare department land adjacent to Khyber Teaching Hospital where Pakistan Baitul Mal proposed another model shelter home.
The meeting was told that since there was litigation over the piece of land, therefore, the shelter home would be set up somewhere else. The meeting was informed that land would be given to Baitul Mal in Kohat to set up a shelter home with Turkish cooperation.
Dr Hisham directed the officials to resolve the matter immediately. He also directed officials to frame rules under legislation for the shelter homes.
He said that shelter home was directly helping poor and needy.
