ISLAMABAD: Though the twin cities has been witnessing a downward trend in Covid-19 cases for the last couple of days, there was no let-up in casualties as five more died from the virus in both the cites.

The capital saw 283 infections and two deaths.

Officials of the capital administration said both the deaths were of men and in the age groups of 50-59 and 60-69.

They were the residents of Bhara Kahu and F-13, they added.

During the last 24 hours 3,596 tests were conducted in capital which found the infections in 283 people, they said, adding that the positivity rate was 7.87pc.

District Health Officer Dr Zaeem Zia said that 147,039 residents of the capital had been vaccinated against the virus so far.

Meanwhile, City Magistrate Ghulam Murtaza booked organisers of a mourning procession, taken out in connection with Youm-i-Ali in G-6.

Police and the magistrate had asked the organisers to enforce SOPs, but they ignored, the police said, adding that the procession was taken out from an imambargah in G-6/4 which culminated in G-6/2 imambargah.

There was a complete ban on gathering in capital to prevent the spread of the virus, they said, adding that, so far no arrest had been made.

Rawalpindi

As many as three people died from Covid-19 in Rawalpindi district and 120 tested positive for the virus while 92 patients discharged from the hospitals.

Mohammad Javed, 67, resident of Sanazar Colony, was brought to Benazir Bhutto Hospital on May 3 where he died on Tuesday.

Mohammad Akbar, 87, resident of city area, died at Holy Family Hospital.

Fatima Bibi, 65, resident of city area, arrived at Isolation Hospital and Infectious Treatment Centre on May 3 where she died on Tuesday.

In Rawalpindi district, there are 1,494 active patients. As many as 177 patients are in the hospitals including 70 from other districts and 1,317 patients were home isolated. As many as 697 patients are waiting for their results for Covid-19 serology.

Total 120 new patients were reported from the district including 89 from the garrison city --27 from Cantonment, 31 from Potohar Town and 31 Rawal Town --16 patients from Gujar Khan, two from Taxila, two from Kallar Syedan and three each from Islamabad and Chakwal, two from AJK while one each came from Attock, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Mianawali.

The new Covid-19 patients arrived in the city hospitals including 28 in Holy Family Hospital, 29 in Benazir Bhutto Hospital, 91 in Rawalpindi Institute of Urology, 21 in Fauji Foundation Hospital, eight in Hearts International Hospital and one in Begum Akhter Rukhsana Hospital.

There are eight patients on ventilators in Rawalpindi, 120 are on Oxygen and 50 are stable.

Deputy Commissioner retired Capt Anwarul Haq told Dawn that the so far 1,126,339 people had been vaccinated in the district in last two months.

He said two FIRs registered on Tuesday against the violators of SOPs, Rs57,500 fine imposed on restaurants and eight outlets were sealed, Rs8500 fine imposed on public transport.
