PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Wednesday appointed 25 law officers including 10 additional advocates general, 14 assistant advocates general and an advocate-on-record.

A notification was issued by secretary law and parliamentary affairs under Section 3 of KP Appointment of Law Officers Act, 2014, mentioning names of several advocates for different posts.

The newly appointed additional advocates general include Saifur Rehman Khattak for Bannu and Mohammad Nisar, Malik Akhtar Hussain, Mohammad Sohail, Khalid Rehman, Sardar Ali Raza, Mohammad Inam Yousafzai and Mohammad Adeel Butt for Peshawar.

Barrister Shumail Aziz and Mohammad Shafaqat Jan have been appointed as additional advocates general for Islamabad.

The appointed assistant advocate general include Ziaur Rehman Tajik, Shakila Begum, Saqib Raza, Javedullah, Samiullah Jan, Syed Asif Jalal, Niaz Mohammad, Mohammad Bashar Naveed and Kamran Murtaza for Peshawar; Alam Khan Adenzai for Swat; Rahmatullah for Dera Ismail Khan; Sajidur Rehman for Abbottabad; Arshad Hussain Yousafzai for Bannu and Nasiruddin shah for Islamabad.

Moinuddin Hamayun has been appointed as advocate-on-record.

The notification says that the law officers should not be allowed for private practice/legal advisory of any kind and should not be paid any fee for the opinion/work rendered to provincial government as may assigned to them by law department.

Their appointments are liable to be terminated at any time without notice. Under the law a law officer should be a citizen of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

An additional advocate general should be enrolled as an advocate of Supreme Court or high court and has for a period of not less than 10 years been an advocate of the high court. Similarly, an assistant advocate general should be an advocate of the high court for a period of not less than seven years.
