KARACHI: A judicial magistrate on Saturday remanded three suspects in police custody in a case pertaining to allegedly blackmailing and harassing a married woman, who committed suicide in Shadman Town.

The case was registered against six men and three of them were arrested for their alleged involvement in blackmailing and harassment of the 41-year-old victim, who ended her life by hanging herself from the ceiling fan earlier this week.

On Saturday, the investigating officer produced the held suspects before the judicial magistrate (Central) to seek their police remand for interrogation and investigation.

The IO informed the court that the suspects were taken into custody in connection with the death of the woman, who sent voice messages to a friend blaming the suspects along with others for blackmailing and harassing her.

He said that their physical custody was required for interrogation to track down their accomplices and complete other legal formalities and investigation.

The IO requested for 14-day physical remand of the suspects. However, the magistrate granted two-day physical remand of the suspects in police custody directing the IO to produce them on the next date along with an investigation report.

According to the FIR, the complainant, a brother of the deceased, stated that his sister committed suicide because she was fed up with the “blackmailing, harassment and threats” of the nominated suspects.

He also presented three audio messages of his sister to this effect, which she had sent to her female friend.

A case was registered under Sections 322 (manslaughter) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code at the Shahrah-i-Noor Jehan police station.

Four remanded in gang-rape case

The administrative judge of the antiterrorism courts on Saturday remanded in police custody four suspects in a case pertaining to alleged gang rape of a woman in the Memon Goth area.

The police had booked and arrested the suspects for their alleged involvement in sexually assaulting a woman and blackmailing her.

The IO said that the suspects had allegedly raped the victim on Jan 12 and also filmed it on the basis of which they were blackmailing and harassing her.
