MUZAFFARABAD: The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government on Thursday bowed to the demand of the striking teachers of public sector educational institutions regarding up-gradation of their posts, following which they announced an end to their ongoing strike on the issue.

According to a press release, a high level meeting, presided over by Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider and attended among others by the representatives of the AJK Teachers Organisation, agreed in principle that the basic pay scales of primary, junior and senior teachers would be upgraded to BS-14, BS-16 and BS-17, respectively.

The prime minister directed the authorities concerned to submit him a summary to this effect at the earliest so as to ensure the issuance of the notification before March 31.
