RAWALPINDI: A 24-year old man was killed allegedly in celebratory fire at a marriage function in Sadiqabad area in the early hours of Sunday, police said.

The incident occurred in Qayyumabad area where the friends of Mohammad Usman were celebrating his wedding, police said.

Mohammad Banaras, a retired army personnel, told police that he was sitting in a shop when he was informed that his son, Mohammad Asim Abbasi, had been killed. He said as soon as he got the news, he rushed to Benazir Bhutto Hospital where he found his son’s body lying in the emergency ward.

He said his younger son, Qasim, informed him that he and his brother Asim were participating in the Mehndi function of Usman at his house where a music programme was going on.

During the programme, some youngsters resorted to celebratory fire, which Asim tried to stop and in the process had an exchange of hot words with some of them, he said.

He further said during the exchange, someone fired and a bullet hit Asim.
