BAHAWALPUR: Activists of the All-Pakistan Clerical Staff Association (Apca) announced on Tuesday that they would launch a protest in front of parliament and Bani Gala in Islamabad on Feb 10 if their demands including pay increase were not met by the government.

The announcement was made during a protest rally by the lower-grade government employees.

The rally led by Apca divisional president Malik Riaz Ahmed and other office-bearers was brought out from the premises of Metropolitan Corporation, Bahawalpur and the speakers vowed to continue their struggle for the acceptance of their demands. They protested that the lower-grade employees were unable to feed their families and threatened protest in Islamabad for an indefinite period.

CONVENTION: An Ulema convention organised under the auspices of Tanzeemul Madaris, Ahle-Sunnat (South Punjab) on Tuesday vowed to oppose the government Waqf bill passed by the National Assembly recently.

The speakers including Allama Muhammad Khan (Provincial president South Punjab), Mufti Muhammad Kashif (provincial general secretary) and members of executive council in their addresses claimed that they were united on this agenda and would avert all attempts to undermine the independence and autonomous status of seminaries and would not allow any conspiracy against these.

QAMC: The Quaid-i-Azam Medical College (QAMC) on Tuesday began five-day functions to express solidarity with the Kashmiri brethren and staged a rally led by Principal Prof Dr Shafqat Mahmood here.

The Islamia University Bahawalpur (IUB) is already holding five-day celebrations to express solidarity with Kashmiri people.
