LAHORE: The traffic police on Saturday impounded a rickshaw for defaulting on 74 e-challans.

A rickshaw driver had been issued e-challans 74 times over violation of traffic signals at different times, mostly near GOR-II, Mozang. However, he failed to pay the total fine worth Rs14,800 because of which the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) had blacklisted his vehicle.

The authority had also issued directions to wardens to impound the rickshaw.

On Saturday, the vehicle was intercepted by a warden, its e-challan details were checked through the Safe Cities App and it was found that the rickshaw had defaulted on 74 challans, therefore, it was seized at the Lytton Road police station.

A PSCA spokesperson said the rickshaw would only be released after the payment of the entire amount. He said the authority and traffic police had launched a joint operation against e-challan defaulters in the city.

Traffic wardens had also been provided with a specialised mobile app to verify data of defaulting vehicles, he added.
