SAHIWAL: Up to 54 daily wage workers protested on Tuesday against the authorities of the Sahiwal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) for suspending them from job.

The protest was organised outside the BISE building. They alleged they were sacked without any prior notice. They chanted slogans against the board management and demanded their reinstatement.

It is learnt the marching orders for daily wager landed because of the Covid-19 pandemic and delay in matric and intermediate examinations. Many sacked workers sought stay orders but the court vacated them. Protesters said they had been on temporary job for the last seven years and were not confirmed despite their fight in courts.

“Our job confirmation case has been in court and despite that we’ve been fired,” a protester said.

BISE Chairman Dr Shafiq told Dawn workers were suspended from job for the time being and when board examinations are announced, they would be employed back to their previous jobs.
