RAWALPINDI: Inspector general of police Punjab Inam Ghani has directed the divisional police chiefs and district police officers to check the crime against minors and ensure that suspects involved in the crime are arrested.

“No stone should be left unturned to bring the number of such crimes down,” the IGP urged the regional police officers (RPOs) and DPOs and added: “The accused at large should be arrested and to make efforts to get the bails cancelled of those who had been on bail.”

In Rawalpindi division, as many as 90 cases were registered during April1 to Sept 15.

Rawalpindi district, however, was top of the list as 55 cases of crime against minor were registered with the Rawalpindi police, 14 cases registered with Attock police, 11 cases were registered with Jhelum police and 10 with Chakwal police.

According to official sources, a total of 16 children died while ten minors were injured in the crime against minors in four districts of Rawalpindi division.

The highest number of 55 cases was registered in Rawalpindi District. Ten children were killed and five others injured.

According to the sources, DIG Operation Punjab on behalf of IG Punjab had urged the RPOs, CPOs across Punjab including that of Rawalpindi to make all efforts to curb the crime against

minor and ensure the arrest of accused.

Similarly, the directives said that in such cases, the suspects should be arrested as soon as possible.

Attock district registered 14 cases of crimes against children in which six children were killed and five injured.

In Jhelum district, 11 cases were registered and in Chakwal 10 cases were registered. However, no child was killed or injured in Jhelum and Chakwal.

Similarly, according to the official sources, a total of 119 accused were named or involved in these cases across the region out of which 72 were arrested while 47 are absconding or hiding.

A total of 78 accused had been involved in 55 cases of crimes against children in Rawalpindi, of which 41 have been arrested by the police while 14 are absconding.

In 14 cases of Attock district, 19 accused have been named or involved, out of which nine arrested and ten are absconding.
