LAYYAH: A clerk working at Chaubara tehsil office of the government’s anti-poverty initiative Ehsas Programme has been arrested for alleged rape of a 9th class girl student who had visited the office to get registered for the scheme.

The 15-year-old girl, a resident of Chak 377 TDA, had visited the office at Chaubara tehsil with her uncle a day earlier, where the suspect worked as a clerk.

The suspect got the girl’s address and other information on the pretext of registration and reached her house on Sunday when her parents had gone to fields.

Finding the girl alone, he subjected her to rape and fled when a neighbour arrived on hearing her cries. On the report of the girl’s uncle, Chaubara police registered an FIR against the suspect on rape charge.

The medico-legal report confirmed the rape.
