KHYBER: Christians living in the Landi Kotal tehsil of the Khyber tribal district have strongly resented orders of demolition of their houses located adjacent to the Landi Kotal prison inside an army camp.

Addressing a press conference at the Landi Kotal Press club on Sunday, Arshad Masih, Riaz Masih, Zabieul Nisa Bibi and Hameeda Bibi said that they were served notices by the jail authorities to vacate their houses for an expansion of the local sub-jail.

They said that at least six of their houses were situated adjacent to the local prison, adding they had been living there since 1914.

The affected families said that they had no other place for living and would be left completely without shelter if they were forced to vacate their houses.

The Christian community members demanded of the authorities concerned to immediately scrap the notices served on them and give them sufficient time to relocate their families to an alternative location.
