RAWALPINDI: The wildlife department has cautioned local population and tourists to Murree to beware of leopard which has frequently been sighted on the hill station.

Wildlife Rawalpindi Region Deputy Director Mohammad Nadeem Qureshi has issued the advisory in this regard. The advisory instructs that if a person accidentally encounters a leopard, they should stand up straight and remain quiet and take a step back. If they run or shout uncontrollably, wild animals can attack to save themselves.

The advisory states that leopards, pigs and snakes do not prey on humans or attack unless they are harassed.

The advisory said that 90pc of wildlife attacks on humans are sudden and accidental.

Demonstrate your presence in the forest by coughing, shouting or clapping to avoid any possible attack. Avoid going out into the woods before sunrise and after sunset as these are times for wildlife to find food.

The advisory says that if you encounter a leopard or any other wild animal on the driving road, keep your speed. Avoid stopping, taking pictures and taking selfies.
