CHARSADDA: A policeman lost his wife and three children when a car they were travelling in skidded off the road and plunged into Swat Canal in the Umarzai area of Tangi tehsil here, police said on Friday.

They said ASI Intizar Khan and his family were going in the car in Umarzai area when he lost control over the wheel, and the vehicle fell into Lower Swat Canal.

As a result, his wife, sons Okasha and Mohammad Ahmed Khan, and daughter, Atikka drowned. Intizar was rescued by the local people.

Soon after the incident, SP investigations Iftikhar Shah, Tangi tehsil DSP Khalid Khan, SHOs Tangi and Prang, Rescue 1122 personnel and officials of irrigation and defence reached the spot and supervised the search for the bodies.

According to residents, the incident occurred due to absence of safety railings along a bridge.

Later, the victims were buried at their ancestral graveyard.
