TANK: Personnel of the Counter-Terrorism Department shot dead an alleged terrorist, Sameedullah Mahsud, in an “encounter” in Tank district on Friday.

Mahsud was wanted for his involvement in various cases, including assassination of Col Mujeeb.

Officials said that the “encounter” took place in Barrakhel village of the district on Friday. They said the alleged terrorist had an affiliation with the Sajna group, an outfit of the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan. An official statement said that Mahsud belonged to South Waziristan district and he was wanted by law-enforcement agencies in several acts of terror.

The statement said that the suspected terrorist was also involved in the killing of Col Mujeebur Rehman, who was martyred during an intelligence-based operation about two months ago.

The statement said that two hand-grenades, an AK-47 rifle and ammunition were recovered from the possession of the terrorist.
