Saudi grand mufti says Taraweeh, Eid prayers to be done at home amid coronavirus outbreak

Saudi Arabia’s Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdulaziz Al al-Sheikh, the highest religious authority in the country, said that prayers during Ramazan and for the subsequent Eid al-Fitr feast should be performed at home if the coronavirus outbreak continues, Saudi’s Okaz newspaper reported on Friday.
“Ramazan’s Taraweeh (evening) prayer can be performed at home if it cannot be performed at mosques due to the preventive measures taken to fight the spread of coronavirus,” he said in response to a question, adding that the same applies for Eid prayers, according to the paper.
The holy month of Ramazan begins next week.
Saudi Arabia in mid-March stopped people performing their five daily prayers and the weekly Friday prayer inside mosques as part of efforts to limit the spread of the coronavirus.
On Thursday, the Prophet’s Mosque in the holy city of Medina said it was banning events which dispense evening meals in the mosque to those in need during Ramazan to break their daily fast.
The kingdom has reported 6,380 cases of Covid-19, the highly contagious respiratory disease caused by the new coronavirus, and 83 deaths so far.

Mufti Saheb you needs to take a refresher course on Fatwa.
We do it all the time. Our Board Certification is valid only for 10 years and we have to take a recertification examination.

This would probably put to rest some contention b/w Pk Govt and ulema not agreeing to stay-at-home recommendation by Pk Gov. PTV can telecast virtual live Tarweeks and virtual live Eid Namaz prayers to further support and supplement stay-at-home initiatives.

Mufti Taqi Usmani Saheb : Sir your certification may need to be updated.
Do you have to take a Re-certification Examination. Or maintain CME credits ( I mean it may be CRE or Continued Religious Education for you area of expertise).
Your subject matter is vast and need for Continued Education is a must.
MD needs to take a re-certification examination for American Board of Internal Medicine every 10 years. Knowledge and Research needs to be continually updated. Hope you agree.

Will Pakistani so called 'Ulema' follow the instructions issued by Saudi grand mufti to pray Tharawees at home along with Eid-ul-Fiter prayers because of coronavirus, or, they will issue 'Futwa'? No wonder, Muslims are divided and world doesn't listen to us.

Living in Saudi Arabia and being a Mufti doesn't mean that only the pious and sensible people live there there are more pious and sensible Muslims in sub-continent.
