LAHORE: Lahore High Court Chief Justice Mamoon Rashid Sheikh on Thursday issued a notice to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on a petition of Punjab Assembly Speaker Pervaiz Elahi challenging a fine on him for violating code of conduct during the 2018 general election.

A counsel contended before the court that during the last general election, the Gujrat deputy commissioner imposed a fine of Rs5,000 on the petitioner for using panaflexes in violation of the code. He said the decision of the deputy commissioner was challenged before the ECP but it also dismissed the appeal ignoring the facts.

He asked the court to set aside the decisions of the ECP and the DC as well.

After hearing the arguments, the chief justice issued notices to the ECP and the DC for their replies by next week.
