Unique libraries

This refers to the cover story “Unique libraries” by Rizwana Naqvi (YW, February 01, 2020). The writer beautifully describes some distinctive libraries and how people are finding ways of developing the reading habit and building up their knowledge.

The universal purpose of any library is to be a resource that provides people access to knowledge and information sharing to become better people and serve the society in an educated way.

More polio cases

Polio is raising its ugly head again in our country. So far this year, eight cases of polio have been detected, including four from Khyber Paktunkhawa, three from Sindh and one from Balochistan. In all, 144 cases were reported last year, 12 in 2018, and eight from in 2017.

We all know that polio is a major disease caused by the polio virus and it mainly affects children under the age of five. It attacks the nervous system and can cause paralysis. While there has no cure for polio, vaccine is most effective way to save children from this dangerous disease.

Pakistan is one of the three remaining countries in the world where it is still categorised as an endemic viral infection, the others being Afghanistan and Nigeria. So it is my humble request to everyone to create awareness about the importance of the vaccine.

Congrats Naseem Shah

I would like to congratulate the youngest Pakistani player Naseem Shah for his maiden test hat-trick. He is only 16 years old and has become the youngest player to get a hat-trick in test history. He took his hat-trick in Rawalpindi stadium against Bangladesh in the first Test match.

His work is praiseworthy and I appreciate him and the other players for their talent in cricket. I hope that young Naseem will achieve a lot for Pakistan in the future. Best wishes for the future.

The haunted mine

This letter is about the story “The haunted mine” by Syed Muhammad Ali (YW February 8, 2020). It was certainly a good piece of writing, but I would like to comment on a couple of things.

The story title and the accompanying illustrations made my expectations high but when I read the story, I thought it could have been more interesting. It started well but somewhere in the middle, I started losing interest but the end was interesting.

In future I would like to see better stories.
