LARKANA: Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SMBBMU) registrar Prof Dr Shahida Magsi on Thursday tendered her resignation and, according to sources in the secretariat, she stopped signing official papers without waiting for its approval or otherwise by Vice Chancellor Dr Aneela Atta-ur-Rehman.

“I am travelling, therefore, could not accept it and assign [the slot] to anyone ...” said the VC in a WhatsApp message to this reporter.

Prof Magsi has cited “health and family issues” as the reason for her decision to relinquish the post.

She had been holding the charge of registrar in addition to her job of a professor of gynaecology and obstetrics.

She informed the VC that “due to extra workload, my health is compromised and my family suffering a lot ..., I tender my resignation from additional assignment of registrar”.

Prof Magsi was assigned the task of the additional registrar on Oct 25, 2018 and elevated to the post of registrar with effect from April 18, 2019. She was told to continue with her assignment until a suitable candidate for the post was appointed.

The university administration had advertised and interviewed candidates for the slot twice but the selection board could not find and recommend a suitable one.
