KARACHI: Law enforcers on Monday claimed to have busted an organised gang and seized from them uniforms of LEAs.

They had looted over Rs200 million from people, according to Rangers spokesperson.

Rangers and police carried out a joint action in Malir area and busted an ‘organised gang’ by arresting its eight members and seized from them arms, ammunition, vehicles, fake green number plates and uniforms of Rangers and police.

“This was an organised gang [that] used to trap people on the pretext of providing them dollars in return [for] Pakistani currency on cheaper rate as compared to the market and subsequently loot them, pretending to be personnel of Rangers and police,” said the official.

During an initial probe, the held suspects said that they belonged to an organised mafia that had looted over Rs200m from people so far, according to a Rangers’ press release.

They were identified as Noor Mohammed aka Haji, Mol Chand, Husain Bux aka Lahoti, Mohammed Akhter aka Chaudhry, Allah Dad, Mohammed Hanif aka Sheikh, Amir Ali and Mitho Khan.

All held suspects were handed over to police for further legal action.

18 transgender persons held

Police on Monday arrested 18 transgender persons over charges of beating some people and later on attacking Darakshan police station to get their arrested accomplices released, according to South SSP Sheeraz Nazeer.

Police arrested them over complaints that they were allegedly involved in sale of illegal drugs and prostitution, particularly in Badar Commercial, Saba Commercial and other commercial areas of DHA, said the senior officer.

Late on Sunday night, the accused allegedly beat citizens at Badar Commercial when the residents tried to prevent them from indulging in such activities.

The police arrested nine transgender persons who were brought to Darakshan police station. Their several accomplices allegedly attacked the police station, damaged chairs etc, to get their held accomplices released from custody.
