MANSEHRA: The number of dengue positive cases in Mansehra district has soared to 89, forcing the health department to start an awareness drive with the help of lady health workers.

“Keeping in view the rising dengue cases, we have started an awareness campaign where lady health workers are going door-to-door to senstise women to the vector-borne disease,” Dr Nasir Shah, the deputy district health officer, told reporters here on Sunday.

He said as many as 17 cases were reported only from the urban union council-3, followed by 13 cases in the adjoining rural union council.

“Through fumigation and assistance of LHWs, positive results are coming out,” he said, adding an isolation ward had been established at the district headquarters hospital for the dengue patients.

FOREIGNERS’ SECURITY BEEFED UP: Security of foreigners and Chinese working on the Hazara Motorway and other projects being executed under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor has been beefed up in the division.

The announcement was made at security meetings held simultaneously in Mansehra and Upper Kohistan and attended among others by high-ups of police, security agencies and representatives of Chinese companies.

“We have enhanced presence of security personnel at residential camps and project sites where Chinese and other foreigners are working,” Zaibullah Khan, district police officer, Mansehra, told the meeting held to review the security of foreigners. He said if any officer or policeman found involved in breach of security protocol he would be taken to task.

The meeting, which held in Upper Kohistan with district police officer Raja Abdul Saboor in the chair, reviewed the security of foreigners working on various projects, including 4,300MW Dasu hydropower project.

He said police and other law enforcement agencies were supposed to provide foolproof security to foreigners working on mega development projects in the district.
