SIALKOT: A group of more than 40 people had a proclaimed offender freed on Wednesday after thrashing policemen and injuring three of them at a village in Daska tehsil.

According to the FIR (No 285/2019) lodged at the Satrah police station by ASI Hawaris Iftikhar Sahi under sections 148, 149, 186, 216, 324 and 353 of PPC, a police team raided the house of Sabir Ali to arrest proclaimed offender Muhammad Sarwar.

As many as 46 people including women, armed with pistols, guns, wooden sticks, bricks and iron rods, attacked police and injured constables Waris Ali, Qamaruzzaman and Inamullah. The mob had Sarwar freed from police custody and dispersed.

The video of the episode went viral on the social media.

The Satrah police registered a case against 46 people including Sabi Ali, Jabbar Ali, Chhotti Bibi, Bashir, Jameel, Waseem, Khalid, Shamoun, Zeenat Begum, Saba Bashir, Ummaya Bibi, Amanullah, Zahid Khushi, Irfan Naseer, Usman, Naseem, Khalil, Shakeel Arshad, Rauf and Haris.

Police said they had arrested the nominated suspects and sent them behind the bars.

CANTT BOARD: Outgoing station commander Brig Ayaz Masud Khan on Wednesday lauded the efforts of the Cantonment Board in improving cleanliness and other facilities.

He was speaking at a farewell meeting held in his honour at the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI). SCCI President Khwaja Masud Akhtar presided over the event.

Brig Khan said efforts would continue for the provision of more facilities to the residents of Sialkot Cantonment and improve the bus stand.

He also hailed the pivotal role of the Sialkot exporters in strengthening the national economy and boosting the national exports by earning foreign exchange to the tune of $2.5 billion annually.
