HYDERABAD, July 29: Fourteen councillors for seats reserved for minority, peasant, worker and women were elected unopposed in the district till Friday evening. Three such seats remained vacant in the Latifabad taluka.

The date for withdrawal has been extended by one day and withdrawal now could take place up to noon on Saturday.

Of the candidates, 11 minority councillors were backed by the Haqparast Group, Muttahida Qaumi Movement sources claimed.

They said six minority councillors were elected in Latifabad and five in the City taluka.

Final declaration for these candidates as elected unopposed will be issued by returning officer after scrutiny of their forms.

Minority councillors were elected unopposed in UC-10, 17, 18, 7, 9 of the City taluka and UC-10, 12, 2, 7, 8, 9 and 11 of the Latifabad taluka.

One and two councillors of peasant, worker and women were elected respectively in UC-12 Latifabad and UC-1 Hatri.

Two seats of peasant, worker and women remained vacant in UC-4 city and one in UC-12 Latifabad.

A total number of 39 objections were filed against contesting candidates before returning officers in Hyderabad district on Friday.

The break-up showed six objections were filed against candidates for Muslim general seats, four against Muslim general (women), two each for peasant, worker (men) and women, one against minority and 24 against nazim, naib nazim by registered voters of the UCs.

Two women candidates have also filed candidatures for seat of nazim and naib nazim.

Dr Rakhshanda Mughiz filed nomination forms for UC-20 city naib nazim and Sajida Baloch for nazim UC-16 Latifabad nazim.
