ISLAMABAD: A portion of Awami Centre located at F-5 collapsed on Tuesday, police said.

The multi-storey building remains abandoned since Sept 2017 after a fire broke out there killing two people and damaging the structure. The portion that collapsed all of a sudden on Tuesday noon was located in the rear side of the building. However, no loss of human lives was reported.

The police requested the capital administration to take steps to avoid collapse of the remaining building.

An official of the capital administration said the Capital Development Authority (CDA) would be approached to get the building examined and take steps to avoid such incident in future.

The CDA would also be asked to repair the building, if possible, or demolish it completely, he added.
