LAHORE: A competitive card of six events featuring the July Cup has been dished out for the day/night Lahore Summer Meeting at the Racecourse here on Sunday.

The July Cup, a class VII Division I and II combined handicap race has eight runners. Of them, the quartet comprising of Sea Horse, Keep It Up, Qalandra and Natalia look on chance to decide eventual the winner.

However, Sea Horse, the daughter of Irish sire Hudson who registered an easy success on her seasonal debut July 7 will be going all out to make it two wins on the trot for owner Saqibullah Khan, who is a breeder as well. Keep It Up, Qalandra and Natalai will be forming a trio of her rivals.

The race is to be contested over 1,100 metres.

The supporting event, the Yasoob Plate Class VII Division III and IV to be gone over 1,100 metres has the largest field of 14 acceptors. Of them the two belonging to one stable — Neeli De Malika and Red Boy — and mare Jan-e-Fida look on chance.

In all, 57, horses have accepted to run in the races programmed for day/night racing.

Meanwhile the sports enthusiasts have lauded Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards’ firm resolve to make the sports clean and transparent and dealing with heavy hands those involved in racing malpractices Last Sunday they fined trainer Mohammad Afzal Rs50,000 for sending his mare Beach Beauty in an unfit condition to race.

They also suspended the licence of rider Munir II for six months for not allowing his mount King Queen to run on merit and stopped the entries of the mare in races for full one year.
