Scientists teleport information inside a diamond

Scientists have successfully teleported quantum information inside a diamond. The breakthrough could provide a boost to quantum computing technologies.

“Quantum teleportation permits the transfer of quantum information into an otherwise inaccessible space,” Hideo Kosaka, a professor of engineering at Yokohama National University in Japan, said in a news release. “It also permits the transfer of information into a quantum memory without revealing or destroying the stored quantum information.”

Diamonds offer the ideal setting for quantum teleportation. A collection of individually contained but linked carbon atoms inside the diamond provide the “inaccessible space.”

The carbon atom is a study in atomic symmetry. But all diamonds have small defects.

Scientists take advantage of diamond defects to produce unique electromagnetic phenomena. The detailed study can be read at the www.upi.com.

120-pound all-beef hot dog!

A New York eatery is aiming for a Guinness World Record with a 120-pound hot dog it is hoping to have certified as the world’s largest.

Feltman’s of Coney Island, the eatery credited with introducing Coney Island to the hot dog in 1867, said the potential world’s largest hot dog measures five feet long and two feet wide and sits on a five-foot bun created by Michael’s Restaurant of Brooklyn.

It is said that after the all beef frank is officially measured and weighed for a Guinness World Record, it will then be cut into smaller portions to be sold for $10.

‘Gorilla crow’ causes a scene at Japanese mall

A bird with an unusual posture has been nicknamed ‘gorilla crow’ after a video of it flexing its wings was snapped at a Japanese mall and went viral online.

The video, posted by a Twitter user was dubbed the ‘gorilla crow’ when users pointed out the bird’s posture appeared extremely ape-like.

Crow researcher Kaeli Swift said the large-billed crow in the video wasn’t actually all that unusual.

Swift said the corvid was standing in a ‘sunning’ posture that only made it appear as though it was using its wings to stand like a gorilla.

‘Scamp the Tramp’ dubbed World’s Ugliest Dog

An aesthetically challenged pooch, named Scamp the Tramp, was crowned the World’s Ugliest Dog after previously coming in second.

Scamp, who has competed in the competition at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Petaluma, Calif., four times previously and was the runner-up in 2018, defeated a field of 18 other unsightly canines to take this year’s title.

“Scamp the champ now. We had to change his name,” owner Yvonne Morones told. “Well, I think the audience got to know him beforehand and they saw all his community volunteer work.”

Morones adopted Scamp from a shelter in 2014, just one hour before he was scheduled to be put down. Scamp has since been working as a therapy dog for seniors at the Sebastopol Senior Centre and first-graders learning to read at a California school.

Morones has an uncanny eye for unusual dogs — Scamp is the third dog she’s owned that has taken the World’s Ugliest Dog title.
