GUJRANWALA, July 20: The Punjab government has constituted special cells at district level to monitor corporal punishment at public schools, an official handout said here on Wednesday. It said a special cell in Gujranwala, headed by district officer (monitoring) Ehsanullah Bhutta, had started functioning while reports regarding beating up the students by teachers were being collected.

It said District Coordination Officer Khalid Masood Chaudhry had directed the executive district officer (education) to get implemented the directive in all educational institutions immediately.

ACCIDENT: A girl student was run over and killed by a speeding car on Wednesday near Kamoki on GT Road.

Reports said Shamaila was crossing the road when the four-wheeler crushed her. She died on way to Lahore Mayo hospital.

Police have registered a case against the car driver and are investigating.

SECURITY PLAN: The range police in a meeting here on Wednesday evolved a master plan to maintain law and order during the coming local bodies election.

The meeting was presided over by DIG Zafar Abbas Lak and attended by DPOs of Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Mandi Bahauddin and Hafizabad.
