KHAR: The Bajaur district administration has installed biometric attendance system in the Governor Model School and College, Khar, a semi-government educational institution in the region.

An official, who oversees the education matters, told Dawn on Saturday that biometric attendance system was installed on the recommendations of its board of governors aimed at ensuring 100 per cent attendance of teachers.

He said members of the board of governors, and parents had briefed deputy commissioner Usman Mehsud, who is also the board’s chairman, about the poor attendance of teachers, which had resulted in dwindling education standards in the college, and recommended introduction of the biometric system to ensure 100 per cent attendance of teachers.

The official said the biometric system was installed a week ago, but it started functioning on Friday. He said every teacher had been directed to use biometric attendance system upon his arrival to and departure from school. The official disclosed that the college’s board of governors had also decided to replace the current principal of the institution. Replaying a question, the official said the biometric attendance system was likely to be extended to the college’s girls’ campus next month.

Meanwhile, the students and their parents welcomed the decision, saying that it would bring significance improvement in the institution’s performance.
