SAHIWAL: A team of the National Accountability Bureau, Lahore, on Saturday visited the district accounts office here and collected record of DPO office accounts branch regarding fuel bills.

A NAB team, led by Assistant Director Ijaz Chattha, is conducting an inquiry into alleged embezzlement of police fuel funds. The embezzlement was allegedly done by ex-accountants of DPO Office, officials of account office and a few bank staffers.

Most of the record is related to fuel consumption and bogus fuel bills. Later, the NAB team visited the DPO office accounts branch.

A source in DPO office told this correspondent that the team sought record from 2011 to 2018. He said an inquiry was pending with NAB, Lahore, involving three ex-accountants of DPO office. Investigations are under way against Haji Sahfiq Ahmed, Iftikhar Bhatti and Haji Saeed Jutt who served as accountant at DPO office during 2009-13, 2014-15 and 2016-18, respectively.

A DPO spokesperson said the NAB team was asked to seek the relevant record in writing.

AIDS, HEPATITIS: Seven inmates are infected with Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) virus in central prison, Pakpattan.

The health department had set up a week-long blood screening camp at the jail. Blood samples of both inmates and prison staff were collected. Of total 472 inmates, seven, nine, and 49 are infected with AIDS, Hepatitis B and C viruses, respectively.

Of total 139 prison staff, two and five are found Hepatitis B and C positive, respectively.
