HARIPUR: A woman and her infant were found dead in their bedroom in Kakotri village of Beer union council, police and family sources said here on Friday.

Kala Khan, the woman’s father, has demanded proper investigation to ascertain the cause of death of his daughter and her son.

Beer police quoted Malik Zarin, a resident of Kakotri village, as saying that he was out of home on Thursday night when at around 7.30am his younger brother called him by phone informing that his wife Nabila Kosar, 25, did not respond to repeated knocks and when he along with other family members broke into the room found her hanging from a ceiling fan and their son, 9, lying dead on his mother’s bed.

Regularisation demanded: Workers of Heavy Electrical Complex (HEC), Hattar, have threatened to go on hunger strike if their demand, including regularisation of service, were not met before April 16.

Through a written complaint addressed to the deputy commissioner, Haripur, a five-member representative committee of workers comprising Tahir Amin, Arif Shah, Engineer Niaz Ali, Engineer Naveed Khosa and Mohammad Shoaib stated that except a few officers all the 260 workers and engineers of HEC were being considered as contractor’s employees.

They contended that the HEC was a state-owned enterprise that was manufacturing and repairing power transformers and operating under the ministry of production and the powers of hiring and firing of workers and providing them facilities of EOBI, gratuity were the responsibility of HEC’s administration.

They claimed that factory administration had declared one of its employees as labour contractor and placed all the workers under his administration.

The committee members stated that despite several orders from the government the services of contract workers of HEC were not being regularised, forcing the workers to go into litigation against the administration. They said that their contract of labour contractor expired on March 31 this year and before the expiry they had informed the deputy director labour and the factory administration about their reservations.

Meanwhile, the deputy commissioner referred the matter to additional deputy commissioner Baid Ullah Shah for its resolution.
