MUZAFFARGARH: The education department has been unable to provide jobs to the people whose parents had either passed away during service or were unfit to continue working.

Najfa Batool had applied for a job two years ago after her mother, who was a schoolteacher, died. She said she approached the education office and submitted her documents and mother’s death certificate, and the officials asked her to wait for a few months after which she would be called for an entrance test to check her typing skills. However, two years have passed and she had received no notification for a test. According to Rule 17-A of the civil servants rules, it was her right to get a job in the department after her mother’s death.

She said she went to the office again where a clerk told her she could immediately get a job as a peon, but will have to keep waiting to get a clerk’s post.

Muhammad Madni claimed that his father was a teacher who retired last year after being medically unfit to continue service. Madni applied for a job as his kin, but has not been called for a test yet, adding that he had a right over it for being a blood relative of a government officer under Rule 17-A.

Education Chief Executive Officer Fiaz Buzdar said undoubtedly it was a right of the family members whose parents had died or were medically unfit for service, but there were no vacancies in the department. He said 40 candidates were waiting for jobs for two years, but only two vacancies for clerical jobs had been created in December and they have not filled those even.

Another education official said the department was only hiring peons, but candidates resisted and sought clerical work.

Deputy Commissioner Dr Ehtesham Anwar said he had called a meeting of education officials next week where they will decide the date for the entrance test. All the candidates would be adjusted at any cost, he claimed.

INJURED: Three members of a family were injured on Wednesday when a mob of proclaimed offenders opened fire on them in Khan Garh, some 25 kilometres from the city.

A mob of armed men, mostly proclaimed offenders, opened fire on the family of Nusrat Bibi in her house. Three people were injured seriously and shifted to Nishtar Hospital in Multan.

District Police Officer Ghazi Salahuddin took notice and arrested nine suspects on the spot. He further said that his team was probing into the matter.

He claimed that two families were embroiled in a land dispute for a few years and a case would be registered against the culprits. He said he had sent Quick Response Force to the crime scene where the suspects were arrested.
