LAHORE: An inquiry committee in its preliminary findings has found an employee of the Mayo Hospital guilty of raping the mother of a minor patient some days back in a VIP room of the infirmary.

Headed by additional medical superintendent of the Mayo Hospital Dr Inamul Haq, the inquiry committee consisted of deputy nursing superintendent Bushra Hussain and Albert Victor Hospital (AVH) Registrar Dr Rao Adnan Shahid.

The committee in its findings stated that the allegations levelled against Shahid Butt, the ward attendant of the Mayo Hospital, proved true.

The suspect [already arrested by the police] had allegedly raped a woman who was attending her sick baby admitted to the hospital.

According to the FIR registered against him, the suspect along with his accomplices, including a security guard and an employee of a local canteen, had blackmailed the mother of the minor and later took her fraudulently to a room of the hospital.

However, the medical superintendent came under immense criticism after he allegedly tried to conceal the matter when the victim woman approached him for action against the culprits.

On finding the MS mum on the matter for a couple of days, she later approached the police which lodged a case against the suspects.

“It is proved that Shahid Butt had fraudulent access to the VIP Room No 6 of the AVH of the Mayo Hospital from where the forensic evidence had been collected by the investigating police,” reads the report.

It further stated that prima facie the suspect appears to be guilty which is subject to further investigation, collection of evidences and cross examination by the police.

He has been put under suspension after the incident and presently in the custody of the police.

The report stated that the police were investigating and tracing his connections in the security department of the hospital and his facilitators.

The committee stated that the [initial] report was finalised after hearing all the available [concerned] people.

It has also written a letter to the police authorities seeking access to the suspect and the complainant of the case lodged with the Gowalmandi police station to record their statements.

The committee further demanded two days to furnish a complete report in this regard.
