HYDERABAD, June 27: Activists of the Qasimabad Action Committee and the Shopkeepers Association held a demonstration on the Qasimabad Road on Monday to protest against supply of contaminated drinking water and slow pace of work on the road.

Speaking on the occasion, Mehboob Abro and Mushtaq Jamali warned that if clean water was not supplied to residents of Qasimabad and the pace of the work on the road was not accelerated in three days, shopkeepers and people of Qasimabad would observe a general strike in the taluka.

PROTEST: Activists of the People’s Party Parliamentarians observed a token hunger strike outside the central jail gate here on Monday to protest against continued imprisonment of party MPA Zahid Ali Bhurgari.

Speaking on the occasion, Iqbal Soomro, Syed Saleem Shah, Sanam Talpur and Noorun Nisa Abro termed the arrest of Mr Bhurgari in what they called a false bomb blast case state terrorism.

They demanded immediate release of the MPA and

withdrawal of the cases against him.

District Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal president Maulana Abdul Wahid Qureshi also joined the hunger strike camp to express solidarity with the PPP.

Meanwhile, MPA Bhurgari was produced in the Anti-Terrorism Court by the Amri police and was remanded in police custody for another seven days.

Strict security arrangements had been made on the occasion.

According to PPP sources, a bail application has been moved in the Sindh High Court, Karachi, which has been fixed for hearing on July 1.
