PESHAWAR: The Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited has started work on laying a major pipeline as new extension project to overcome the shortage and low pressure of natural gas in the provincial metropolis.

The project was inaugurated by MNAs Haji Shaukat Ali and Arbab Aamir Ayub at Tarnab feeding station near GT Road, Peshawar, on Thursday. It would cost Rs150 million. The eight-kilometre long and 12-inch wide pipeline would be laid on the main GT Road to overcome the issue of low gas pressure in Peshawar.

MPA Asif Khan, SNGPL general manager Arbab Saqib and PTI workers were also present at the ceremony.

Talking to mediapersons, Shaukat Ali said that the gas project would fulfil the longstanding demand of Peshawar city. He said the pipeline would be laid from Tarnab station to Suri Bridge, Peshawar.

The PTI MNA said that Prime Minister Imran Khan during a meeting had presented a special package for Peshawar, which was approved and work was in progress on it. He hoped that the people of NA-31, Peshawar, would get relief with completion of the project.

He claimed that several mega projects had been approved for Peshawar. He added that they would make Peshawar a model city in the next five years.
