HARIPUR: The police on Saturday organised an awareness session for the students of Government Higher Secondary School for Boys No 1 for improving road safety.

Traffic Inspector Ilyas Farid briefed the students on the traffic laws a driver as well as a pedestrian were supposed to abide by.

He said that 95 per cent of the road accidents were the result of lack of observation of traffic rules. He said that poor knowledge and the culture of deliberately ignoring the traffic rules was deep rooted in the society and the traffic police were always held responsible in the wake of accidents and subsequent loss of lives, thus ignoring the fact that lack of observation of traffic rules was the chief cause.

The traffic police official educated the students on how they could save their own and others’ lives by just according respect to traffic rules which were enacted only for the safety and help of citizens.
