World should thank Pakistan for its contribution towards eliminating terrorism, says Ghafoor

Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) chief Maj Gen Asif Ghafor on Tuesday delivered a lecture at the University of Warwick in central England, where the military’s spokesperson reportedly highlighted “Pakistan’s contribution to regional and global peace” and urged the world to appreciate its efforts in this regard.

The ISPR chief is accompanying Army Chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa, who is currently in England on an official visit.

According to the details of the event available with DawnNewsTV, Ghafoor said Pakistan wishes that the United States should keep its military presence in Afghanistan till peace and normalcy returns in the country.

The military’s spokesperson claimed that the global powers were able to defeat Al Qaeda with the help of Pakistan. “Terror activities have reduced following the operation carried out by Pakistan Army,” he was quoted as saying.

“The world should thank Pakistan for its contribution to eliminating terrorism,” Ghafoor said, adding that the military has rendered great sacrifices to achieve peace.

The military’s spokesperson highlighted the importance of peace in Afghanistan for attaining regional peace and stability.

Please, don't mention the sacrifices of military only, hundred thousand innocent civilians were martyred in this war against terrorism. Our million pushtuns are still dispalced and their houses are completely destroyed.

Earning respect and begging respect are two different things. Our people are still confused that whether we are fighting our own war or someone else. In last seventeen years our general people and securities agencies have paid lot of sacrifices. Besides the human losses we also suffered billions of dollors in fighting against the culprits and infrastructure damaging. The geo-political situation is also changing very fast and our east and north-east neighbours are joining hands with each other and taking keen interest in our western brother islamic neighbours. Policy maker should take benifit from this transition phase as Pakistan have good leverage in this regard.

This was not Pakistan's war, we were dragged in because of the situation and location . This was USA's war with Soviet Union. Unfortunately, pakistan has suffered a lot of lives and financial hardship. We were not reimbursed by the US for all the financial hardship How do you reimburse human lives?. No other bordering country offered any help and now that this has gained some importance other countries want to help selfishly. US needs to take responsibility and accept that this was their war and without pakistan they cannot achieve success. The world needs to acknowledge Pakistan's contribution.

We appreciate and thank the efforts sacrifices made by the valiant armed forces of Pakistan. Please continue your grand mission until complete peace returns to western borders, eastern working boundaries and LOC. While inside Pak your assistance to civilians LEAs must also continue for maintaining law and order, and continuity of civilian governments for good governance. The bad governance or misappropriation of any form must be brought to knowledge of accountability institutions who may independently take actions against the wrongdoers. After all the financial stability is a cornerstone of all stabilities.

@Orakzai agreed. But it was sort of inevitable though due to geography and nature of conflict. However the govt and army should do their best both in terms of monetary and administrative support to help effected people overcome these challenges. Long live Pakistan and our courageous pushtuns who have never shied away from sacrificing for their country.
