LAKKI MARWAT: Traders blocked the Bannu-Mianwali road here on Sunday to record their protest against the Saturday’s incident of fire exchange between two groups in a busy market near the main bus stand in Lakki city.

Two groups had exchanged fire in the busy market on Saturday, creating panic among the local traders and people.

The protesters gathered at Qazi Ishfaq Chowk where they blocked the road connecting Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with Punjab.

The speakers on this occasion said that such incidents disrupted business activities in the main market. They asked the local police authorities to arrest the people involved in the firing incident. Following assurance by the local police authorities that they would take action, the protesters dispersed and opened the road to traffic.

MEMBERSHIP DRIVE: Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl launched its membership drive in Shakh Quli Khan union council on Sunday with the aim to bring more people especially labourers into its fold.

Party activist Mohammad Israr kicked off the campaign in a brick kiln where labourers joined JUI-F by filling the membership forms. The JUI-F activists also visited villages in the rural union council to convince people to join the party.

“The response by labourers at brick kilns and other small industrial units was very positive as the workers filled the membership forms and announced their affiliation with the party,” said Mr Israr. He claimed that his party had always served the masses and it would continue to play its role in development of Lakki Marwat district.
