KARACHI: A high-level meeting, with Pakistan Rangers Sindh Director General Mohammad Saeed in the chair, on Monday reviewed security arrangements for Muharram and decided to strengthen them further.
The meeting was held at the Rangers headquarters on Dr Ziauddin Ahmed Road and attended by senior police officers, paramilitary force and intelligence agencies.
The participants exchanged views on the security plan to ensure law and order, and meet any eventuality during the holy month.
It was decided that the code of conduct prepared by the provincial government for Muharram would be implemented and all majalis and processions would be thoroughly monitored.
“During the meeting, a joint strategy for the elimination of street crimes was also reviewed,” a statement issued after the meeting said.
The participants stressed the need for improving coordination among all law enforcement agencies to curb street crimes.
Two ‘hitmen’ held in Lyari
Police on Monday claimed to have arrested two alleged hitmen linked with the Lyari gangsters.
Acting on a tip-off, the Kalakot police apprehended Sajid alias Chichi and Faraz alias Cheena.
“The held suspects are targeted killers linked with a notorious gang led by Zahid Ladla,” claimed City SSP Dr Samiullah Soomro.
“They were involved in two recent targeted killing of Mohammed Shakeel and Shoaib alias Codu in Lyari.”
