PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority on Wednesday sealed at least 11 food outlets and discarded around 1,000 kilogrammes of raw material and 200 kilogrammes of meat from illegally slaughtered animals in various operations across the province.

Giving details, the food authority’s spokesman Ataullah Khan said that a team of officials raided Mirch Mandi on Charsadda Road of the capital city where 15 storages of spices were checked.

It was noted that substandard raw material was used in production of spices while expired spices were also repacked for supply in the market.

Mr Khan said that five warehouses were sealed and at least 1,000 kilogrammes of raw material of spices was discarded. Another team of the authority during a visit to Regi bazaar, situated in the suburban area of Peshawar, confiscated 200 kilogrammes of meat of illegally slaughtered animals and arrested the butchers.

Moreover, 30 kilogrammes of China salt was also seized from a general store, which was sealed.

The spokesman said that the authority’s team sealed six bakeries in Chaye bazaar in Bannu over non-compliance with the safety standards. He said that adulteration and unhygienic conditions of food outlets would not be tolerated.
