LAHORE: Former police inspector Abid Hussain alias Abid Boxer on Friday secured pre-arrest interim bail from the district and sessions court in 10 criminal cases registered against him at various police stations of Lahore.

Six separate additional district and sessions judges granted the former policeman bails in cases subject to furnishing of Rs100,000 surety bonds in each case.

Advocate Aazar Latif represented Hussain before the courts and contended that all cases registered against his client were fabricated and politically motivated.

PAT chief demands JIT

Talking to the media, Abid Boxer said he would soon reveal facts with evidence about the cases registered against him at a press conference. “Just give me some time; I will reveal everything,” he said responding to a query.

The caretaker federal government had admitted before the Lahore High Court that Abid Boxer had been extradited to Pakistan in February this year. A law officer had presented a report from the UAE government showing Hussain leaving for Karachi on Feb 17. The government was directed to present him on July 27.

Hussain’s father in-law Jaffar Rafi had approached the court for protection of his son in-law soon after rumours spread about his extradition to Pakistan. Mr Rafi claimed that a number of fabricated cases had been registered against his son in-law but all were a result of political victimisation. He asked the court to summon record of all the cases and order police to ensure protection for Hussain.

Abid Hussain had joined the police service in 1988 as an assistant sub-inspector and was later promoted to inspector. He fled from the country in 2008 following registration of multiple cases against him under murder and other charges. However, the Federal Investigation Agency and the police had told the court that Hussain had not been extradited to Pakistan.

Qadri: Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Tahirul Qadri says Abid Boxer, the former police inspector, has made some serious disclosures in his television interviews and a joint investigation team (JIT) must be formed to find out how many innocent people were killed in fake encounters at the behest of Shahbaz Sharif.

He termed the allegations made by the police officer too serious to be ignored.

Mr Qadri was addressing the party office-holders and workers in Italy on Friday.

He said Shahbaz during his 10-year rule failed to improve health and education facilities. “At least, he should have paid some attention to prisons so his brother won’t have complained against lack of facilities in Adiala Jail. He said soon Shahbaz Sharif will beg for same facilities in jail that Nawaz Sharif is requesting for against jail manual.”

Former Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif was now wailing at high-handedness of police, he must provide details how many workers of his party were killed and wounded on 13 July, the PAT chief demanded.

Mr Qadri said Shahbaz was now posing as a victim but under his directions on 17 June 2014, same police sealed whole Punjab with containers, ruthlessly killed 14 PAT workers and wounded over 100, including women, and detained over 2,300 under different sections of ATA.
